Termites evolved from the cockroach over 150 million years ago and can be found in 49 of the 50 states -- everywhere except Alaska. They cause almost $2.5 billion in damage annually.

Termites feed on wood and may also destroy paper products such as books, cardboard, boxes, and a variety of other items. Buildings with steel framing and masonry walls are susceptible because of the wooden door and window frames, cabinets and shelving within the buildings.
